Core Elements of Abstraction

  • Color: Often the most powerful tool, color is used to evoke specific moods. Vibrant reds might suggest energy or anger, while soft blues can create a sense of calm.

Line: Lines can be sharp and geometric, creating a sense of order, or fluid and "painterly," suggesting movement and spontaneity.

Texture: Whether literal (thick paint you can see) or visual (patterns that look rough or smooth), texture adds a physical dimension to the image.

Form & Shape: Artists often use basic geometry (circles, squares) or "organic" shapes (blobs, flowing forms) to create a composition without a clear subject.
